Zoey Redbird is a sixteen year old teenager who is marked by the Tracker . The day she is marked , she knows her old life is over . After being marked , she head over to her grandma's house ( Grandma Redbird ) . There , she trips and hit her head on the ground and has a dream of the Goddess Nyx . She wakes up and finds herself in the House of Night . She is then mentored by Neferet , the hight Priestess .
She has a hard time fitting in because of her mark that is different from the others . However , Stevie Rae , Shaunee , Erin and Damien do not treat her like some freak . They accept her and make her feel at home . However , Aphrodite , the leader of the Dark Daughters , envies Zoey . She hates Zoey even more when she finds out that her boyfriend , Eric is hitting on Zoey . After being marked for a few days , Zoey realised that she was gifted with all the Five Elements which is Wind , Fire , Water , Earth and Spirit . Nobody in the history of vampyre has ever been gifted with such amazing talents . Aphrodite has been treating Zoey like a servant and make a fool of her in front of everyone by making Zoey drink blood . Aphrodite can see the future . It is very likely of her not to tell Neferet that the human is in trouble . Zoey wants to get back on Aphrodite and so she pray to Nyx to bring down Aphrodite .
During a ritual , Aphrodite accidentally do something wrong and called all the evil spuirits to the circle causing harm to others . Luckily , Zoey is there and help get rid of the evil spirits and close the circle . To many's surprise , Neferet was there and she has witnessed everything . Zoey is then pick to be the new leader of the Dark Daughters .
